TORONTO’S FAVOURITE SHOW IS BACK!
Valentine’s Day will never be the same
EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL is back by popular demand!
February 14 – April 6, 2008
GIVE THE GIFT OF BLOOD THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
Toronto, ON – Voted “Toronto’s Favourite Show” (DORA Audience Choice 2007) EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL returns for a bloody Valentine’s. Based on Sam Raimi’s 80’s cult classic films, Evil Dead tells the tale of five college kids who travel to a cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. And although it may sound like a horror, its not! The songs are hilariously campy and the show is bursting with more farce than a Monty Python sketch.
Since its beginnings in Toronto four years ago, EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL has continued its cult appeal and wowed its loyal ‘deadites’ while simultaneously exciting an entirely new audience. The rare mix of comedy and horror was also evident in the stars who attended the show, as the audience for EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL often consisted of comedy icons like Colin Mochrie and Rick Mercer sitting alongside horror luminaries such as Clive Barker (Hellraiser) and Darren Lynn Bousman (Director, Saw 2,3,4). After Craig Ferguson came to Toronto to see Evil Dead, he went on his CBS Late Late Show and did an entire monologue on the fun he had at the show. Other celeb fans of the show include; Alan Rickman, Bill Paxton, Norah Jones and of course the star of the Evil Dead films Bruce Campbell who even came up North to support the Toronto cast.
During its 2007 run, the show enjoyed sell-out crowds and rave reviews. Toronto Star has deemed it “One hell of a night out at the theatre…hilariously bloody, bloody hilarious”, The Globe and Mail says that “the silly EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL is bloody fantastic”, The Toronto Sun concludes that it has “that delicious alchemy by which horror is transmuted into hysterical laughter” and NOW Magazine gushes that “it is the best damn dead theatre event of the year”. Added to these accolades, the original cast recording of EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL entered the Billboard Top Cast Albums chart at No. 4.
The cast features film and Broadway star Ryan Ward, reprising his critically acclaimed Off-Broadway performance as Ash. He leads a cast made up of returning stars and new members that will be announced in the New Year.
Directed by Christopher Bond and three-time Tony® Award-winner Hinton Battle (Miss Saigon, The Tap Dance Kid, Sophisticated Ladies), EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL includes book and lyrics by George Reinblatt, music by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt with music supervision by Frank Cipolla, choreography by Hinton Battle and set design by Tony® Award winner David Gallo (Drowsy Chaperone).
Evil Dead: The Musical tickets are the perfect stocking stuffer. And just in time for the holidays, Evil Dead will be selling gift certificates for tickets. That way you can give the gift of blood to your loved ones without having to choose a date for them to see it.
